Every week (just about) the contributors to The Irrelevant will share the one thing we've been into this week. It can be a movie, a book, a song, an album, some youtube video, a random meme, or twitter user, anything that's been taking up more space in our mind than it should. We want to share this with you because we like sharing things we're into. Also these are perfect things that you can consume over the weekend, so here they are:

A League of Their Own Reboot

It was only a matter of time! I shouldn’t be surprised that one of the best would eventually fall victim to a reboot. My initial reaction was anger of course, but once I found out that Abbi Jacobson, star and co creator of Broad City, would have a hand in this, that anger subsided. There isn’t any news yet on a cast or release date, but what we do know is that it will be an Amazon exclusive series. Each episode will run a half hour long, and will show the formation of the league in 1943. It will follow the Rockford Peaches, season to season, as the struggle to keep the team alive. The series will dive deeper in the issues facing the country while following a team of women figuring themselves out while living out their dream of playing professional baseball. It’s really hard to imagine anyone else but Tom Hanks and Geena Davis portraying the characters of Jimmy Dugan and Dottie “The Queen of Diamonds” Hinson. That entire cast was gold, but I’m excited to see what spin they can put on this to make it original. I have faith that Abbi will be able to make it something special, and while we wait for more news on this reboot, remember

Wrestlemania is the pinnacle of the wrestling year. There is no other wrestling promotion that can put on the show that WWE does year in and year out. For over a decade now the event has averaged at least 70,000 people in attendance, everyone from children to celebrities love viewing/attending the event. Having only watched it I can tell you every bit of the electricity of the venue comes through like almost nothing else, for example watch the Hardy Boyz make their triumphant return to the company after a long absence.

With that being said WWE’s main roster will not have the best wrestling so of the weekend. That honor will go to the company’s not so “developmental league”, NXT. I have been catching up on NXT this week heading into this Saturday’s Takeover: New Orleans and they are gearing up for another weekend stealing show. The smaller more independent minded, promotion within a promotion, will not put on the pyro filled, star studded spectacle of the main event but their storylines and in ring work has been topping the “main” shows for the better part of a year now. There is no doubt in my mind the talent on the roster will leaving the the wrestling community speechless during their pilgrimages to Wrestlemania, this year taking place in New Orleans. One match to look out for in particular will seeing the best young talents the company has to offer and Lars Sullivan in a ladder match for a debuting title. There will also be an insane triple threat tag team match and a grudge match between former partners that has been building for a year and those aren’t even the main events. You can watch for yourself on WWE Network this Saturday followed by the B show on sunday, good luck sleeping until then I know I wont.
